As my friends know, I adore Rachael Ray and consider her a *pretend friend*. Going way back to my lawyer days, I have watched her show religiously. Her approach to cooking and life is similar to mine — it’s all about easy food, fun drinks, and good company. In a nutshell, enjoying life! And while she embraces whole foods and healthy meals, she eschews the popular way of categorizing food as “good” or “bad.” Which I find such a relief. Why does everyone always talk about feeling guilty for enjoying something delicious? I’ll have none of that nonsense!
I have always imagined that if I met Rachael, we would hit it off like crazy. And I’ve often daydreamed about being on her set with her, cooking, chatting, making corny jokes, and having a good old time. I can almost pretend that I’m actually there with her while I’m sitting there, folding my laundry and keeping two small humans alive, laughing at her jokes and going, “Look what Rachael’s cooking! Doesn’t that look good?” to my four year old.
So when she announced that she was having a contest to find a co-host for a day through DreamJobbing, I felt a flutter of excitement. Could this be it? My opportunity to turn my fantasy into a reality?!
I immediately started planning in my head what I could do in 60 seconds or less to give her a taste of what I’m about. I decided to narrow it down to three things — my boys and proud embrace of my homemaker/at-home mom status, my passion for yoga (which ties into my ongoing practice of mindfulness), and the little tips and tricks that I’ve learned over my past four years as an enthusiastic homemaker. Oh, and I had to throw some wine in there.
I put on a little makeup and filmed a bunch of short clips, in iPhone selfie mode, over the course of part of the morning while my oldest was at preschool, and then for a little bit in the afternoon when he was home. I also took a headshot. Everything in selfie mode, mostly wearing Paul in the Moby (only way to get it done, plus it shows how I love babywearing). Very low production value. Hey, I’m a housewife, not a producer! The next day, I started Googling “how to edit a video on a Mac” and figured out that I already had iMovie on my computer. I had no idea how to use it though. So I spent a couple of hours simultaneously sustaining two humans and clicking furiously on iMovie to edit all the clips I had gathered. At the last minute, I figured out how to add titles, and added a few for comedic value.
And thus, my DreamJobbing video was born! It was a true labor of love.
Now, all I have to do is pray that the producers see it, and like it!
Just one problem:
I currently have zero likes — yikes!!! It’s like seventh grade all over again. 🙁
UPDATE 10/22: I have likes! Thank you to everyone who supported me!!! <3
Please help my dream come true, and take a couple of minutes to check out my video and Like/Comment! This will help my chances of being noticed by the producers, and maybe even chosen for the next round! It does take a couple of minutes to register on the site to Like/Comment, but if you can find a moment to do it, I would appreciate it so much. And maybe the seventh grade flashbacks would cease, mercifully.
Muchísimas gracias! And Rachael, if you’re watching this…pick me!!! (With *three* exclamation marks, Rachael! *I mean*!)
